Hello, and congratulations on your acceptance to the College of Technology at Purdue University! My name is Mandy Scott, and I graduated from Purdue and the College of Technology almost four years ago. I can still remember trying to determine which college was going to prepare me for future opportunities and which fit me personally. I could not be more satisfied with my decision. My education at Purdue enabled me to take advantage of opportunities that led to a career in aviation while my personal experiences provided me with a family that spreads across the globe.
During my junior year I took a class that changed the dynamic of my career path: Leadership Strategies for Quality and Productivity. The instructor had a passion for what he was teaching and took the time to learn about each student and their personal motivations. I never thought I’d be the student to ask for more homework, but there I was engaged in an environment where I couldn’t ask my questions fast enough and couldn’t wait for the next discussion. During this course I found a new filter to view the situations around me through, which has enabled me to lead by asking better questions and making improved decisions.
Today I am an executive staff analyst with The Boeing Company on the 787 Wing and Landing Gear team in Everett, Wash. I have the pleasure of working with brilliant and passionate people who gracefully share their knowledge and excitement for airplanes. In September of last year, as we delivered the first 787 Dreamliner, CEO Jim Albaugh ran through a list of historical aviation moments. As he read my face lit up with pride; each of those moments were led by a Boilermaker. Despite having graduated, I am still surrounded everyday by my Boilermaker family as we make a difference in aviation and the world! I hope you will join us.
Boiler up!
